how are you?

there are several ways to ask someone how things are going.

"comment ça va?" is the most well-known way. ça va by itself is more casual and used as the comment can be seen as stiff.

ça baigne also conveys that, more casual: how's it going?

you'll most likely receive a polite response from strangers, or overall more positive ones, but it's not always the case. basic ones:

ça va bien: i'm good / bien, merci! et toi? : fine thanks! and you? / (ça va) trés bien: it's going really well

if you want to be playful, "ça roule ma poule" is very informal and friendly: it's all good. however the literal translation is quite different...

bof: meh / [this one is quite negative] (beh,) ça peut aller: could be better or worse. / ça pourrait être pire: it could be worse / on fait aller: we make do.
